A Life Story

Barbara (Jeannette) Baggett Amman died Tuesday, January 7, 2025, in Savannah, Georgia, completing her journey on earth peacefully at home with her family by her side, just two days before her 77th birthday.Barbara was born January 9, 1948, to Julian Astor and Mary Marie (Jenkins) Baggett in Gainesville, Florida. She was the eldest of five children (siblings William Baggett, David Baggett, Stephen Baggett and Daniel Baggett).On December 26, 1966, she married the love of her life, David James Amman, in Cocoa Beach, Florida. As a married couple they built a beautiful life for the next 58 years until her passing. Her primary focus was her family. She is survived by her husband David; her three children and their spouses -- Jenna Amman Brinkman (Cees); Matthew Jamison Amman (Catherine); and Joseph Davidson Amman (Elloree Ganes), and her seven grandchildren -- from eldest to youngest -- Emily Camille Amman; Alexandra Grace DeMarco; Lauren Elise Amman; Olivia Marie DeMarco; Jacob Reese Amman; Elloree McKenna (Emma) Amman; and Charlotte Eppes Amman. Barbara became a grandparent in 1999, developing deep and binding relationships with each of her seven grandchildren. She believed she would be judged on the character of her grandchildren. She won that case soundly and decidedly by carefully observing and understanding each grandchild's unique personality and then amplifying their potential.Barbara greatly valued education and was a lifelong learner. She graduated from Cocoa Beach High School in 1966. After high school, she enrolled in Florida State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in elementary education in 1970. After teaching thousands of students over the span of nearly two decades, as well as raising her three children to adulthood, Barbara embarked on a new career path in law. She graduated magna cum laude from the Florida State University College of Law in 1996. As an attorney, Barbara practiced family and governmental law, taking cases ranging in everything from adoption and divorce to international kidnapping, animal neglect and more. A fierce advocate, Barbara shined in her role as an attorney, with her finely crafted ability to analyze, write and argue.Her personal interests included gathering and spending time with family and friends; traveling; reading; baking with her grandchildren; sewing; and crocheting.Barbara's family and close friends will gather in a private setting in Savannah, Georgia, on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. in her remembrance. And because the city of Cocoa Beach, Florida, was home for Barbara and always will be, family and friends will also gather at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Lori Wilson Park ("east of the dunes").
