A Life Story

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Carol F. Jones, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Carol passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 10th, 2024, at Hospice Savannah, surrounded by her family.Born on Wednesday, October 27th, 1954, in Savannah, Georgia, Carol lived a fulfilling life enriched by the love of family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, D.C. Fortner and Juanita Shuman Fortner, and her brother, Cecil Fortner.Carol is survived by her devoted husband of 44 years, Richard "Richie" C. Jones, Jr., who stood by her side through all of life's joys and challenges. She was the cherished mother of Kari Jones Scott (Kenny) and Jonathan Jones (Stephanie), and a proud grandmother to Abby, Julia, and Zachary. Her family was her world, and she cherished every moment spent with them.Professionally, Carol dedicated many years to the Chatham County Tax Commissioner Office, where she worked as a Processor until her retirement. She also found joy and fulfillment as the owner of The Sweet Shop in Garden City, a dream she brought to life with equal parts determination and creativity. She was a member of the Garden City Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.An avid knitter and crocheter, Carol found peace and contentment in crafting gifts of love for her family and friends. Her kindness and compassion extended into the community, where she forged lasting friendships.Friends and family are invited to gather for a time of visitation at Baker McCullough Funeral Home Garden City Chapel, on Saturday, December 14th, 2024, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
