A Life Story

Clark Weldon Smith peacefully sailed to heaven on September 27, 2024, at the age of 75, attended by his wife and daughter at their home in Savannah, GA.Born on December 9, 1948, in Decatur, GA, Clark graduated from Gainesville High School and earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Industrial Engineering from Georgia Tech, where he was a proud member of Lambda Chi Alpha. In his freshman year, he met Carol Sue Rogers on a blind date. He was smitten by her playful wit, propensity to pack a picnic, and willingness to rappel down mountainsides. Likewise, she was struck by his subtle sense of humor, readiness to leap into joyous buck dancing antics, and the dedication and leadership he brought to everything he did. Carol and Clark married in 1970, the beginning of a 54-year adventure. Clark's rewarding career with General Electric took them across the U.S. and to Singapore for three years, where he later said the Lord used their time in Asia to teach them cross-cultural relations. In 1989, they settled in Savannah, GA, where Clark and Carol opened a Fortune Personnel Consultants franchise, recruiting in manufacturing nationwide and in Latin America. Clark was also deeply committed to serving his community and his church, Christ Church Anglican. In 2007, they answered a call to full-time missions and founded E412 Ministries, serving in 23 countries and on U.S. mission boards. Between missions, Clark loved revisiting the mountains of his childhood by spending cherished time with family at a cabin on Lake Glenville in North Carolina.He was preceded in death by his father, John Weldon Smith; mother, Novena Harrison Smith; and sister, Wendy Smith Hughes.Clark is survived by his loving wife Carol Rogers Smith; his daughter, Georgeanna Reese Connors; son-in-law, Mike; and grandsons, Reese and Riley, all of Asheville, NC.
