    A Life Story

It is with profound sadness and deep respect and sorrow that we announce the passing of Dale Hyde, 75 who departed this life on June 25, 2026, at his home in Savannah GA. Born on May 30, 1951, in Danville, PA, to Alda Krum and Samuel Joffrey Hyde. Dale was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and loyal trusted friend to many. At an early age, Dale possessed an incredible combination of strong emotional intelligence, adaptability, and strong leadership skills. Always providing the correct balance of support and direction. It was no surprise when Dale was elected class president his senior year at Bloomsburg High School. While at high school, Dale excelled on the football field and was already an avid gun collector. Having his choice of colleges, Dale selected and attended Cornell University with major studies in history and pre-veterinary curriculums. Afterwards, Dale graduated from Bloomsburg University with a graduate degree in Biology. In 1989, Dale graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a Ph.D. in Physiology. In 1989, Dale began working for the Naval Medical Research Institute (NMRI) as a Research Physiologist in Exercise and Thermal Physiology. In 2000, Dale transferred to his dream job at the Navy Experimental Dive Unit (NEDU). Dale’s career carried him from the fjords in Norway, to the glaciers in Alaska. Dale travelled extensively throughout the world working with other countries on collaborations such as the International Underwater Working Groups. Dale thoroughly enjoyed his job as the Department Head of Biomedical Research until retiring in 2015. Dale said many times throughout his 26-year career with the Navy that if you love what you do, then you will always enjoy getting up and going to work in the mornings. Dale loved his job and the people he worked with! It was at NEDU where Dale met and married Brenda. Together they established several successful business ventures. From rebuilding and remodeling distressed houses to consulting on the design of computer systems or brokering the sale of antiques; the two could accomplish anything together. Dale and Brenda were without a doubt the love of each other’s lives. Dale’s hobbies consist of gun collecting, all animals especially birds, wood working and remodeling anything…there was nothing Dale could not repair. Dale survives by his cherished wife Brenda; their son Matthew and his wife Katie, his beloved granddaughter Violet, his sister-in-law Jane, a niece Diane, a nephew Steve and a large extended and cherished NEDU family. Dale is predeceased in life by his parents, his sister Nancy, his sister Margaret and his brother Ron. A funeral service with be held at NEDU in Panama City Beach, FL, on Friday July 31, 2026.
