A Life Story

Hugh Lee Helmly III (89) passed away Sunday, September 8th. He was born May 16th, 1935, in Savannah, GA.He graduated from Commercial, Class of 1953. In 1954, he married Margaret Anne Westberry. He served in the U. S. Naval Reserves aboard the U. S. S. Robinson DD 562. After the Reserves, he worked as an Electrician out of I.B. E.W. Local 508. He was lifelong member of the Independent Presbyterian Church, where he was a Deacon and an Elder. He was a Commercial High Men's Cobra Club member.He was preceded in death by his parents Hugh Lee Helmly, Jr. & Edna Lucille Stanton Helmly, brothers Dana Stanton Helmly & Neal Arnold Helmly.He is survived by his wife of 70 years Margaret W. Helmly, son Hugh L. Helmly IV (Remae), Daughter Meg H. Michaelis, son Stephen F. Helmly, Sr. (Pam), daughter Linden Anne Helmly, Son Michael J. Helmly (Monica).Grandchildren Jason R. Helmly (Michelle), Shannon H. Crim (Mike), Erin H. Collins (Patrick), Stephen F. Helmly. Jr. (Kate), Casey L. Michaelis, Nolan J. Helmly (Marisa),Cooper L. Michaelis, Ian N. Helmly, Lily H. Strasser (Ryan), Olivia A. Helmly, Parker J. Helmly, 9 Great Grandchildren and 4 Great-Great grandchildren. Sisters-in-law, Patricia N. Helmly, Brenda T. Helmly, Olive W. Conlin (George), Wanda J. Westberry, and brother-in-law James Ray Westberry, as well as a host nieces and nephews.The family will be present 6 o'clock until 8 o'clock in the evening, Wednesday, September 11th at Gamble Funeral Service - 410 Stephenson Ave., Savannah, Georgia.Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock in the afternoon, Thursday, September 12th at the Independent Presbyterian Church, 207 Bull Street, Savannah GA 31401, with graveside to follow at Bonaventure Cemetery, 330 Bonaventure Road, Savannah, GA 31404Remembrances may be made to Independent Presbyterian Church, 207 Bull Street, Savannah, GA 31401
