A Life Story

Hy Charles Sussman, MD, age 90, passed away October 9, 2024, in Savannah, GA. Hy was born October 5, 1934 in Savannah, GA and was raised by his late mother, Vivian Goldberg and his grandparents, Morris and Annie Sussman. He attended Benedictine Military High School, University of Georgia, and Medical College of Georgia.He tirelessly devoted his life to caring for the sick and gave his wholehearted love to his family. He was adored by his three children and seven grandchildren. Family was the absolute pride and joy of his life. He was compassionate and generous, humble and selfless.He left such a beautiful and enduring legacy. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty Sussman, his children, Dr. Tony Sussman, Anne Naudé (Dr. Johan Naudé), and Dr. Dale Gertz, and his grandchildren, Evie, Vivian, and Alex Gertz, Allison and Jason Naudé, and Joshua and Sarah Sussman.A private service and burial were held at Bonaventure Cemetery.Remembrances in Hy's name may be made to Benedictine Military School or a charity of choice.
