A Life Story

Jimmy Powell Smith, Jr., age 90, passed away on July 8, 2026. Mr. Smith was a member of a number of organizations throughout the years including the Alee Shrine Temple, Sons of the American Revolution, Scottish Rite, Chatham Artillery, Volunteer Guard, and Sons of the Confederacy. Jimmy was a 82nd Airborne Artillery Officer and Vietnam Veteran. He was awarded the Bronze Star during his service to the US Army and retired from the US Army. Jimmy was a member of Garden City United Methodist Church. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife Edna Drucilla Casey Smith; parents, Tula and Powell Smith Sr. Mr. Smith is survived by his four daughters, Donna Watkins, Lori (Fred) Peche, Debra Jordan, Bonnie (Herb) Hicks; two sons, Efrayim (Shawn) Ben-Avraham, Bill (Marianne) Boykin; ten grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. There will be a visitation on Thursday, July 16, 2026 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Baker McCullough Funeral Home Hodgson Memorial. There will be a funeral service on Friday, July 17, 2026 at the funeral home at 10:00 am with burial to follow at Bonaventure Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to Garden City United Methodist Church or Compassus Hospice.
