    A Life Story

John “Jay Bird” Parkman, 66, of Savannah, Georgia, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2026, at Hospice Savannah after a brief illness. Born and raised in Savannah, Jay was a proud graduate of Windsor Forest High School, where he formed lifelong friendships that he cherished throughout the years. He dedicated 40 years of service to Kroger, retiring as a Market Manager. His strong work ethic, loyalty, and commitment earned the respect of countless coworkers and friends. Above all, Jay’s greatest joy was his family. He was a loving father, a proud Pawpa, and a loyal friend. His grandbabies brought endless happiness to his life, and he treasured every moment he spent with them. Whether he was cheering on the Atlanta Falcons, relaxing on his back porch with a cigar, or simply spending time with the people he loved, Jay found joy in life’s simple pleasures. Jay will be remembered for his kind heart, his steady presence, and the love he gave so freely to those around him. His memory will live on in the stories shared, the traditions he passed down, and the countless lives he touched. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Jean Parkman and Johnny Parkman. He leaves behind to cherish his memory the mother of his two daughters, Barbara Parkman; his daughters, Sara Kennedy (Chris) and Shelby Wall (Josh); his brothers, David Parkman and Michael Parkman; his beloved grandbabies; his cherished grand-kitties; his Sweet Pea, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss him deeply. Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that his love, laughter, and legacy will remain with us always. There will be a memorial service on Friday, July 24, 2026 at 4 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home. Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Homes - West Chatham Chapel - 901 Hwy 80 W., Pooler, GA - 912-748-2444
