A Life Story
Savannah native Michael Burke passed away unexpectedly on October 6, 2024, at age 70. Born and raised in downtown Savannah and Tybee Island, he was a 1972 graduate of Benedictine Military School and completed a degree in Biology at Armstrong State University. While trained in Science, Michael's real love was Music, and he toured for many years with local bands, playing base guitar and songwriting. As a young man, he enjoyed surfing and bicycling at Tybee. He was a regular fixture in later years walking downtown Savannah greeting and talking with tourists.Michael was pre-deceased by his parents, Dr. Arthur Michael Burke, Jr. and Kathleen Howard Burke. He is survived by his sister Kathleen (Ed), his brother Tim (Marie), and several cousins, nieces, nephews.Visitation to be held at Fox and Weeks Islands Chapel on Monday, October 14, 2024, 5:00-7:00 p.m. with graveside ceremony at Catholic Cemetery on Tuesday, October 15th at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Humane Society of Greater Savannah and the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist Heritage Preservation fund.
