A Life Story

(SAVANNAH) - Vincent Joseph Grevemberg, age 73, passed away on August 24, 2026 at home after a long and valiant journey with cancer. Vincent was born in Chatham County in Savannah, Georgia, on July 7, 1953 to Milton Vincent and Nel Baran Grevemberg. He grew up on 52nd Street in the Parkside Neighborhood of Savannah, enjoying years of fun and mischief with the other Parkside boys. He attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic School and graduated from Benedictine Military School in 1971. He then graduated from the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs!!!) with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1977. After graduating from University of Georgia, Vincent was hired as an “Ombudsman” with the Chatham County Engineering Department in 1977. He served in positions of ever increasing responsibility culminating as the Senior Engineer for the Department of Engineering. Vincent helped to create Savannah Area Geographic Information Systems (SAGIS) and was recognized as an expert on Geographic Information Systems (GIS). He retired from Chatham County Department of Engineering in 2008 with over 31 years of service. Over the years of his service, he received numerous awards, commendations, and accolades from supervisors, peers, and the public alike. Vincent was an avid tennis player, enjoying in competing in league tennis and playing on Tuesday morning games with his close friends. He was a member of the U.S. Tennis Association for many years and competed in numerous Georgia State Champion tournaments. He also enjoyed golfing, even if he was not a very good player. His favorite hobby was woodworking. He prided himself on making many unique handmade gifts for his family. Vincent loved boating and the water. He cherished the many exotic trips throughout the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans he took with his wife over the 43 years of their marriage. He was a communicant of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He is preceded in death by his mother and father and his sister, Helen Patricia Grevemberg. Vincent is survived by his wife, Karleen Moody Grevemberg; his sister, Gayle Arberg; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends; and members of the dinner club he enjoyed for over 40 years. Following cremation, a private interment of ashes will occur at Bonaventure Cemetery. Remembrances: Tunnels to Towers and/or Savannah Speech and Hearing.
