A Life Story

Bill is survived by his wife of over 35 years, Maria; son, Bill Jr; Daughters, Barbara Mann, Leslie Schieue, Sandra Wright, Elie Pierce; preceded in death by Daughter, Cristina Scott. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Maggie Mann, Sarah Mann, Evan Schieue, Claire Schieue, Max Scott, Will Scott, Bryson Wright, Zachary Wright, Lindsey Wright, Ellie Wright, Michael Pierce. In addition, he leaves behind a sister, Colby Lee, and many nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents Cole and Bett Scott of Charlotte, N.C.At age 16, Bill graduated from Northside High School in Atlanta, GA where he set the record for running the hurdles in track. He then graduated from Emory University with an undergraduate degree in Psychology and Math. In 1968 he graduated from the Medical College of Georgia where he obtained his Medical Doctor degree followed by an internship at Grady Memorial Hospital specializing in psychiatry. Bill was a pioneer in the treatment of Alcohol and Drug addiction in Atlanta, GA. He established a private practice as well as group practices for the treatment of both psychiatric and addiction problems. Bill testified in front of the U.S. Congress regarding the addictive dangers of Xanax. He also functioned as the medical director of both the psychiatric and addiction medicine units at Peachford Hospital and Ridgeview Institute in Atlanta, GA.Bill served in the Air Force Branch of the United States Military for two years and was discharged with a rank of Major. Bill was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church on Tybee Island, GAHis interests and hobbies centered around his family and being home surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He loved his family, and this extended out to reach his large extended family. He welcomed all to his home and was a gracious host to 21 loud Cubans who all spent the night at his home every summer. Bill was a quiet, gentle, loving soul, who was committed to serving others. He will be greatly missed.There will be a Memorial Service on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at St. Michael's Catholic Church on Tybee Island at 11:00am.
