    A Life Story

Alan Holmes Stahl, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 98. Born on March 8, 1926, in Winthrop, Massachusetts, he was the cherished son of Leslie Stahl and Dorthea Holmes. Alan answered the call of duty at a young age, enlisting in the Navy on February 10, 1944, to serve during World War II. He proudly served aboard two ships, LST 875 and LST 900, demonstrating courage and dedication. After receiving an honorable discharge on June 1, 1946, and multiple ribbons, Alan returned home and began the next chapter of his life. Shortly after, he married the love of his life, Barbara Jane Todd. Together, they embarked on a beautiful journey, starting at Oklahoma State University, where Alan earned his degree. Their life was enriched by the arrival of their two children, Todd Alan Stahl of Savannah, GA, and Susan Stahl Dober, married to Vincent Stanley Dober III, of Savannah, GA. Alan's greatest joy was his family, which grew to include three adoring grandchildren: Meghan Elizabeth Dober of Sandy Springs, GA, Cameron Leigh Dober of Sandy Springs, GA, and Samuel Vincent Dober of Sandy Springs, GA. He was also a beloved uncle to his nephew, Mark Schindler of Vermont, and nieces Virginia Livingston of Arizona, Carol Albers of New Jersey and Cynthia Jamison-Marcy of Illinois, Alan enjoyed a long and successful career with AT&T, retiring at the age of 55. In retirement, he and Barbara built a wonderful life together in Vermont, where they created lifelong friendships and embraced the beauty of their surroundings. Believers of service, Alan volunteered at the Bradford United Church of Christ, the Bradford Community Club, with AT&T Pioneers at Dartmouth Hospital, as Treasurer of the Bradford Public Library, and at the famous Annual Wild Game Supper. At the age of 75, he and Barbara became snowbirds, purchasing a condo in Savannah, GA, where they became an integral part of their children's and grandchildren's lives. Alan's 98 years were marked by a life of service, love, and joy. He brought happiness to all who knew him and left an indelible mark on the lives he touched. His legacy of kindness, support, devotion and sarcasm will be carried on by his family and friends. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered. In lieu of a service, we ask all who remember him to do a good deed for others, raise a glass of bourbon, and indulge in a sinful piece of chocolate-one of his favorite things to do.
