A Life Story

Algie Youmans Simons, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2024, after a lengthy illness. She was 83 years old.Born in Norristown, Georgia, Algie was the cherished daughter of Clyde and Ephriam Youmans. She moved to Savannah, Georgia, at a young age and made it her lifelong home. Algie attended Groves High School, where she formed many lasting friendships and memories.For many years, Algie dedicated herself to her work at St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah, where she was known for her kindness, compassion, and dedication to helping others. Algie was also a faithful member of Dean Forest Baptist Church, where she found community and spiritual fulfillment.Algie is survived by her two loving sons, Robert Simons, Jr. (Debra) and Alton Simons (Lisa); her brother-in-law, Larry Owens (Linda); her grandchildren, Ryan, Corey, Cody, Mandy, and Andrew; and her great grandchildren, Case and Maryn; her nephew, Kevin Owens (Sheri-Lyn). Her family was the center of her world, and she cherished every moment spent with them.She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Ephriam Youmans, and her sisters, Shirley Youmans and Shirlene Owens.Algie's life was a testament to love, resilience, and dedication. Her warmth and generosity touched the lives of everyone who knew her, and she will be deeply missed by all.Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Dean Forest Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM at the same location. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Adrian.In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Dean Forest Baptist Church (1524 Dean Forest Road Savannah, GA 31408).
