A Life Story

Dorothy "Dot" Norton Bright, 90, passed away at her home in Savannah on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. She was born May 31, 1935 in Blountstown, Florida to the late Lemuel B. and Ada Norton. She was a homemaker, and a lifetime member of Bull Street Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir for over 60 years and was a member of the Nelson/Couples Sunday School Class. She enjoyed league bowling at Victory Lanes for many years. All members of her family were an important part of her life and she loved playing cards and boardgames with her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Henry P. Bright, her sister, Lois N. Bearden, brother, Rev. Dewey Norton, her sister, Doris N. Willoughby, and a great grandson, Joseph Hagan Howell, Jr. Surviving are her daughters, Cindy Shuman (Larry) and Janet DeLoach; her grandchildren, Christy Howell (Joe), Jennifer Claxton (Blake), Jessica Kessler (Beau), and Jamee Savage; her great grandchildren, Brandon Howell (Reagan), Christopher Howell, Ryan Howell (Chloe), Ashley Claxton, Anna Kate Kessler, Banks Kessler, and Anderson Kessler; her great great grandchildren, Vivi Howell, Adalyn Howell, and Davis Howell; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation will be held from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, Georgia 31406 followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Earnie Pirkle and Rev. Bill Gardner officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park on Wheaton Street. The Bright family is grateful to Georgia Hospice Care, Nurse Narkita and Sabrina. Their care, kindness and attention to detail will be remembered with fondness and appreciation.
