    A Life Story

Helen Eickhoff Wood, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, on January 25, 2025 at St. Joseph's Hospital, in Savannah, Ga. She was married to Dr. Lawrence Avera Wood on August 25, 1962 in Decatur, Ga. They were happily married for nearly 60 years. Helen grew up in northern Michigan in the town of Carp Lake, Michigan. Helen introduced Larry to northern Michigan and its magic. They continued taking their children each summer to northern Michigan to the family compound on Carp Lake. Many happy memories were formed there with time they spent with their children, grandchildren, and extended family members. Helen supported Larry as he pastored many southern Presbyterian churches and also raised two children, Todd and Anna. Helen owned her own framing business in Savannah, Ga, Heritage Frame Shop, in the late 70's and early 80's and many of the art pieces she framed hang in galleries in Savannah and private homes in the historic district. She also served as a volunteer coordinator of the Pine Bluff, Ar. Women's Shelter and as their board President. She served in many volunteer positions in her children's schools, as youth leader at church, and worked as a docent at the Savannah Visitor's Center, and many other charity organizations such as Honduras Outreach. Helen also was a vital part of the organization of Church of the Hills, renamed John's Creek Presbyterian Church in John's Creek, Ga. where Larry served as the organizing pastor. Helen was a critical part of the success of that church and Larry was very proud of her contributions and all her hard work. Her dedication to the success of that church was evident in her strong faith. Helen's biggest success is her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Helen and Larry served as faithful role models for their Christian faith. After Larry passed away, Helen continued to serve her family and to share her faith. Helen left this earth satisfied that their foundation of faith will continue. Helen was a faithful servant of our Lord and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.Helen is preceded in death by her husband Larry and their son, Lance Wade Wood. She is survived by her son, Todd Wood and his wife Olga, Miami, Fl. and their adult children Erica Wood and her husband Patrick Lynch, Aaron, Oliver, Graham, and Audrey Wood; and also by Anna Wood Fredriksson, Savannah, Ga., and her children, Emily and her husband TJ Medeiros, Molly Fredriksson, and two great grandchildren, Addison and Grayson Medeiros. Helen will be buried next to Larry and their son Lance in Moss Point, MS this summer. The date is still to be determined. Service will be at the graveside in Griffin Cemetery. Memorial donations in Helen's memory may be made to Honduras Outreach International, hoi.org.
