    A Life Story

    The Reverend Dr. James Robert Carter, Jr., 85, passed on to the Lord on Friday August 2, 2024, at his home with his beloved wife, Jan by his side. Fr. Carter was born in Selma, Alabama on August 5, 1938, to the late James Robert Carter, Sr. and the late Laura Hannon Carter. He was a graduate of The University of The South in Sewanee, Tennessee. Fr. Carter received his PhD and MA in Church History and Master of Divinity at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Fr. Carter was the former assistant pastor at Christ Episcopal Church in Valdosta, Vicar of St Barnabas Episcopal in Valdosta and Rector of Trinity Episcopal Church in Statesboro. Fr. Carter was the Canon to the Ordinary Episcopal Diocese of Georgia for 15 years before his retirement in 2004. Surviving are: his wife, of 39 years, Jan McEachern Carter; a brother Van Carter and wife Marian; brother-in-law, Jim McEachern and wife, Susie; sister-in-law, Kerry Marchese and husband Bill; several nieces and nephews. Fr. Carter's funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock in the morning on Friday, August 9, 2024, at The Collegiate Church of St Paul the Apostle (Episcopal), 1802 Abercorn St, Savannah, GA 31401. The Right Reverend Frank Logue, Bishop of the Georgia Diocese, Father Kevin Kelly, Mother Lauren Byrd, The Very Reverend William Willoughby III and Fr. John Palmer will be presiding. Donations in Fr.
