A Life Story

James Thomas Sheahan Jr., lovingly known as Jimmy, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2026, at the age of 74. Jimmy was born on August 30, 1951, in Nashville, Tennessee, to James Thomas “Chuck” Sheahan Sr. and Dorothy Starks Sheahan. He was raised in Savannah, Georgia, and spent much of his life in Springfield, Georgia, where he built a life centered around his family, his faith, and the values he held dear. Jimmy worked his entire life as an electrician, having worked much of his career with the IBEW Local 508, Union Camp, and the Savannah Sugar Refinery. He was a hardworking man who took pride in providing for his family. But while he was proud of the work he did, the job he loved most was being a father. Jimmy was a father in every sense of the word. He taught his children how to work hard, how to stand up for what they believed in, how to enjoy the outdoors, and most importantly, how to live with faith and integrity. He spent countless hours with his children through Boy Scouts, sports, hunting, fishing, and trapping. Some of the most treasured memories his children have are not of special occasions, but of the ordinary days spent together—the days that became extraordinary simply because Dad was there. Jimmy was a man of deep and unwavering Christian faith. His faith was not simply something he professed; it was something he tried to live every day. He was a devoted member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and sought to instill that same faith in his children and family. He was also a longtime member of the Savannah Fenian Society and carried with pride the legacy of his father, James Thomas “Chuck” Sheahan Sr., who was a charter member and past Fenian Marshal. Jimmy is survived by his children, James Thomas Sheahan III, John Michael Sheahan, Rose Marie Sheahan, Joseph Timothy Sheahan, and Christopher Stephen Sheahan; his former wife, Judith Usher Sheahan; and his brothers, Joseph David Sheahan Sr., Timothy Joseph Sheahan, and Christopher Andrew Sheahan. He leaves behind a family who will carry his lessons, his stories, his faith, and his love with them for the rest of their lives. Jimmy's greatest legacy will not be measured by the jobs he worked, the things he owned, or the miles he traveled. It will be measured in the lives of his children and the values he gave them. He taught his children to be strong, to work hard, to love deeply, and to walk faithfully. Above all, he taught them to live in a way that honored God. As he would say: “Always walk strong in your faith and be worthy of the kingdom of God.” Those words will remain with his family as they say goodbye to a father, brother, mentor, and friend whose greatest accomplishment was being Dad. Visitation and Vigil Mass will be held Thursday, August 13, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Springfield, Georgia. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 14, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Savannah Catholic Cemetery. May he rest in the peace of Christ, and may the memory of the life he gave to his family live on forever.
