A Life Story

Mr. Jason Harris, 49, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at Memorial Health University Medical Center. Jason Floyd Harris was born at Yokota Air Base in Japan, the second son of Major John F. Harris, Jr. and Lydia Mungin Harris, and the beloved younger brother of John F. Harris, III (Trey). Jason called Ohio home and was raised in the Dayton area. He graduated from Ohio University with a B.A. in 2000 and completed his first M.B.A. at the University of Toledo in 2002. While at Ohio University, Jason joined the brotherhood of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and was inducted into the Phi Chapter in 1997. Alpha Phi Alpha was far more than an organization to him; it was a lifelong brotherhood that helped shape the man he became. Inspired by his Dad before him, he carried forward a proud family legacy, embodying the values of service, integrity, and leadership throughout his life. He forged friendships that became unbreakable bonds, and his Alpha brothers remained among his most cherished relationships. Jason's love for the fraternity was unwavering, and the Black and Gold were forever part of who he was. After completing his MBA, Jason began his career in the business world, working for several large corporations that took him to many cities across the country, including St. Louis, Providence, Kalamazoo, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, and most recently, Arlington, Virginia. He also fulfilled a lifelong dream of becoming an entrepreneur, co-founding a startup Italian restaurant in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. Not satisfied with just one advanced degree, Jason earned a Master of Science from Creighton University while continuing to climb the professional ranks. Together, these varied roles and moves across different regions of the country gave Jason a broad professional perspective, deepened his leadership skills, and shaped him into a seasoned business professional with experience across retail, procurement, merchandising, operations, and entrepreneurship. Anyone who knew Jason knew all about his love for The Ohio State University Buckeyes. Every football season brought renewed excitement, optimism, and unwavering faith that this would be the year the Buckeyes would win it all. No matter where life took him, Saturdays in the fall were reserved for cheering on his beloved team. Family and friends will forever remember his enthusiasm, spirited commentary, and infectious belief that a championship was always within reach. He celebrated every victory and stood steadfast through every defeat, remaining a Buckeye fan through and through. Above all else, Jason treasured family. The love he shared with his Dad, Mom, and older brother Trey, as well as extended family, including grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and close relatives on both the Harris and Mungin sides, was one of the defining joys of his life. Savannah was not merely a destination for family gatherings and childhood memories; it was home in the deepest sense of the word. Drawn by his love for family and his connection to his Southern heritage, Jason proudly purchased a home and relocated to Savannah in July. His move brought tremendous happiness to his mother, Lydia, as well as his aunties, cousins, and loved ones who welcomed him back to the place where so many family ties were rooted. There is comfort in knowing that his final chapter was spent exactly where he wanted to be, surrounded by an abundance of love, laughter, and family. When God called him home, Jason was reunited with his Dad, whom he loved deeply and carried in his heart every day. Jason is survived by his loving Mom, Lydia Mungin Harris, brother John F. Harris, III (Deborah), and aunts and uncles Joseph Harris, Alonzo Harris, Geraldine (Dena) and Ronald Pullin, Doris Harris, Marion Howard, and Ruby and Watson Rawlison. He was predeceased by his Dad, Major John F. Harris, Jr., and grandparents Mr. John F. Harris, Senior, Mrs. Henrietta Sams Harris, Mr. Henry Leland, and Mrs. Maggie Underwood Mungin.
