A Life Story

John Clinton (Clint) Langley passed away at Hospice House of Savannah on August 17, 2026. Clint was born September 10, 1942, to John Clinton Langley Sr. and Catherine Vann Langley. He grew up in Alexander City, Alabama, and attended Benjamin Russell High School, where he was a member of the basketball team. After graduation, he attended Jacksonville State University, majoring in physical education and minoring in history. While there, he was a member of the basketball team from 1962-1963. In 1965, he transferred to Livingston University (University of West Alabama) and was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, serving as Historian. In the summer of 1967, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in history and physical education. Soon after, he began his coaching career at Francis Marion High School in Marion, Alabama, where he served as the Head Basketball, Assistant Football, and Head Track Coach. While there, he also taught seventh- and eighth-grade science, civics, world history, American history, and physical education. In 1970, he became Head Basketball and Head Baseball Coach at the DAR School in Grant, Alabama. In 1971, he received his master’s degree in school administration and physical education from the University of Montevallo in Montevallo, Alabama. That same year, he began working at Shades Valley High School in Homewood, Alabama, where he served as the Head Basketball, Head Tennis, and Assistant Football Coach and taught American history and physical education. In 1978, he worked at Banks High School in Birmingham, Alabama, where he was the Head Basketball and Track Coach. In 1983, he worked for West Jefferson High School in Quinton, Alabama, as the Head Basketball Coach and taught social studies and physical education. In addition to his coaching and teaching history, Clint was a charter member of the Birmingham Tipoff Club and the Inverness Lions Club. On March 17, 1986, Clint took the position of Assistant Principal at Alfred Ely Beach and moved to Savannah, Georgia. In 1998, he moved to Herschel Jenkins High School, where he was the Assistant Principal until 2003. After years of being an Assistant Principal to high school students, he was assigned to May Howard Elementary from 2003 to 2006. During the 2006-2007 school year, he was split between Jenkins and Savannah High. His final years as an educator were spent at West Chatham Middle School until he retired in 2010. He was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church on Isle of Hope and, when asked once by a doctor if he was diabetic, he responded, “No, I am Episcopalian.” He always had a sense of humor, a story to tell, and knew someone everywhere he went. Whether it was a coworker, old friend, former student, or someone he enjoyed pickin’ the guitar with, he never met a stranger. He loved playing his guitar, the Atlanta Braves, and Auburn Tigers and served as President of the Savannah Auburn Club for seven years. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Catherine Langley; his brother, Scott Langley; and the best friend anyone could ever ask for, Glynn Gilbert. He is survived by two daughters, Lorie Johnson (Rodney) of Clanton, Alabama, and Catie Bracken (Chris) of Savannah; and three grandsons, Michael Thomas, Lewis, and Johnavin Brandenberg of Thorsby, Alabama. He will be missed tremendously by all those he loved and those that loved him. The family would like to thank Sam and Taylor with Hospice of Savannah for the excellent care they provided him in his last few months. Finally, a very special thanks to Bob Lupacchino and Tom Haley for their loyal friendship and support. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 21, 2026, at 1 p.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church on Isle of Hope in Savannah. Burial and reception will immediately follow at the church.
