    A Life Story

    Mr. Larry W. Groover, 76, passed away March 19, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Larry was born December 18, 1948 to Walker and Dorothy Groover. An Effingham County native, Larry graduated from Effingham County High School in 1968. He was a lifelong member of Laurel Hill Lutheran Church. Larry spent most of his life living on his family farm in Springfield. His passion was farming and raising livestock. He loved nothing more than working in his shop and riding his tractor. His love of agriculture was evident as a member of FFA, Effingham Young Farmers and Georgia Farm Bureau. As a young adult, he enjoyed being a part of the Springfield Trail Riders Riding Club. He also enjoyed being a part of the Men's Card Club and Berryville Hunting Club. Larry had fond memories of the time he spent working for Goshen Tie & Chip and International Paper, previously known as Union Camp, from where he eventually retired. Known for his big heart and huge smile, Larry's presence, love and laughter will never be forgotten. He will be remembered for being a loving husband, brother, uncle and friend. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Walker and Dorothy Groover. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Patrica Zipperer Groover; sisters, Lynn Weitman (Preston) and Nell Wright; nieces and nephews, Becky Fields, Wesley Weitman (Amy), Wendy Humphreys (Daniel), Abby Smith and Walter George Wright (Lindsey); great-nieces and nephews, Hannah Weitman, Katelyn Smith (Alec), Holden Fields, Chase Weitman, John Humphreys, Ansley Wright, Hayden Fields, Tucker Smith, Brysen Wright, Cayden Wright, Dawsen Wright; great-great-niece, Charlotte Smith; and special friend and caregiver, Joann Goldwire. Visitation: 1:30 - 3:15 pm Monday, March 24, 2025 at Laurel Hill Lutheran Church. Funeral: 3:30 pm Monday, March 24, 2025 at Laurel Hill Lutheran Church. Burial: Laurel Hill Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family wants to give special thanks to the staff of SunCare Hospice & Palliative Care, especially Pam, Jeanette and Taylor; the EMTs of Central EMS; and staff of Fresenius Dialysis Center in Rincon for the excellent care and love shown to Larry.
