    A Life Story

    Springfield/Tybee Island – Marvin Mathis Vickery passed away peacefully on July 31, 2026, at 90 years of age, surrounded by his loving family. Marvin was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Throughout his 90 years, he was known for his kind heart, gentle spirit, strong work ethic, and unwavering love for his family. He touched the lives of many though his generosity, wisdom, sense of humor, and willingness to lend a helping hand. He will be remembered not only for the memories he created but also for the values and lessons he shared with those who knew and loved him. Marvin was one of the founding members of Burkhalter Baptist Church. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. He was employed by Center Brothers of Savannah, GA, and his mentor Leo Center. He was the lifelong owner and operator of Savannah Carpet Mart and was a licensed pilot. He had a passion for automobiles, especially racing and collecting classic cars, and found great joy in sharing those interests with family and friends. He was a member of the Rodger Lacey Masonic Lodge #722 F. & A.M. He was preceded in death by his father, Mathis Vickery; his mother, Leona Simons Vickery; his brother, Adolph Vickery; and his daughter-in-law, Kathy Vickery. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Pamela A. Vickery; his children, Clyde Vickery, Donald Vickery (Michelle), Ronald Vickery (Debbie), Michelle Ellis (Jay), and Tony Vickery (Lynn); He also leaves behind 8 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever treasure his memory. Marvin’s legacy of faith, hard work, love, and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered. In lieu of flowers donations may be given to Mayo Clinic or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 12 noon Wednesday, August 5, 2026 followed by a memorial service at 12 noon at Strickland Funeral Home, Effingham Chapel.
