A Life Story

Mary J. Romanos, 79, died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, August 5th. In the company of her husband of 54 years, Jack. She was born in Greenwich Connecticut, daughter of Claude and Alice (Bayus) Veach. She attended local public schools and graduated from Rippawam H.S. In 1965. In 1972, Mary married Jack Romanos, also from Stamford. They have one child. Mary worked briefly for the Xerox cooperation as a Human Resources specialist. Shortly after her marriage she left to become a full-time mother and homemaker. It was during this time that she also became a great cook. They moved to Wilton Ct. where they lived for over 30 years. Mary’s real passion was athletics. She was a championship level tennis player and golfer. An outstanding amateur athlete, she won many tennis and platform tennis titles. She also played golf at a championship level, winning the women’s club championship four times at the C.C. Of Darien. She scored six holes in one over her golf career. Mary became a part-time resident of Savannah, moving to the Landings in 1999. She became a full time resident in 2008. In addition to her husband, Jack; Mary leaves behind her daughter Cary Lynne Gueran (Mitchell) of White Plains, NY, her grandchildren, Christopher Hunter Jordan, Ryan Jack Gueran, Eve Alyse Gueran and her best buddy Gus (the wonder dog!). In lieu of flowers the family suggests you consider a donation to the Humane Society for Greater Savannah, 7215 Sally Mood Dr., Savannah, Ga., 31406. The memorial service will be private.
