    A Life Story

Stephen Wayne “Steve” Booker, 80, passed away peacefully on August 28th, 2026 at his home on Whitemarsh Island. His family and friends remember him fondly as a loving patriarch who brought people together through his hospitality, humor, and a loyal dedication to family and fun. Steve grew up in Savannah, Georgia in Ardsley Park and occasionally resided on the Booker family farm in Americus, Georgia and on Tybee Island during the summers. He attended Savannah High School, Savannah Country Day, Darlington School, and the University of Georgia and served in the United States Marine Corp before pursuing his entrepreneurial career. Steve started his company, Life Systems, in 1977. With his wife, Marie, at his side, he took on industry giants to establish the business as a national innovation leader in long term healthcare products and technology. His natural creativity, foresight, and tenacious negotiating skills solidified his reputation as a savvy business leader. He sold his business and retired in 2022, which gave him the opportunity to discover his passion for pickleball, and devote more time to his Georgia Bulldogs and Atlanta Braves. Throughout his life, Steve was known for his enduring and indomitable adventurous spirit, and traveled around the world for business and good times. In his early years, he traversed the southwest delivering frozen foods and conquering pool halls. From motorcycle trips to Central America, the Western U.S. and the Arctic Circle, to vacations with family and friends, Steve always had the next best trip in mind. He was particularly fond of excursions to The Bahamas on fast or slow boats, fishing, diving, and exploring the beautiful waters of Abaco and Exuma. Steve was a member of the German Heritage Society, the Savannah Yacht Club, the Forest City Gun Club, the Gentleman’s Literary and Shooting Society, and the Lost Boys Motorcycle Club. He served on the board of Riverview Health and Rehabilitation Center and the Savannah Airport Commission. Steve is survived by his wife Marie Fleming Booker, their son, Richard Booker, his daughters Catherine Booker and Stephanie Denzin (Nate), his grandchildren, Theodore Denzin, Roger Denzin, and Sage Booker-Hauer, and his brother Randy Booker (Judy). He is predeceased by his sisters, Elfrieda Hendrix and Ann Mackey, and his brother Joe Booker. A Visitation Service will be held at Fox and Weeks on Hodgson Chapel on Monday, August 31st from 5:00p.m. - 7:00p.m. A Graveside Funeral Service will be held at Bonaventure Cemetery on Tuesday, September 1st at 10:00a.m. with a reception to follow at the Savannah Yacht Club, 730 Bradley Point Road, Savannah, GA 31410 Flowers can be sent to Fox and Weeks Hodgson Chapel. The family suggests that remembrances be made to the Friends of Exuma (www.exumafriends.org), the Ossabaw Island Foundation (www.ossabawisland.org), or the Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org).
