    A Life Story

    Guyton – Virginia Meador McKenzie, 73, passed away May 28, 2026 at her sister’s home. Born in Albuquerque, NM and raised in Effingham County where she remained most of her life, Virginia was a woman of strong faith, a kind heart, and unwavering devotion to her family. She was deeply involved in her church throughout her life, serving as choir director and sharing her love of gospel music with everyone around her. Her faith was a guiding light that carried her through life's joys and challenges. Virginia dedicated many years to serving her community. She retired from the Effingham County Board of Education as a bus driver, where she was known for her warm smile and caring spirit. She also spent ten years as a tour guide with Old Town Trolley Tours in Savannah, sharing her love of history and her gift for storytelling with countless visitors. She found joy in life's simple blessings. Virginia loved spending time at the beach, watching birds, tending her flowers, and nurturing anything she planted. She truly had a green thumb and could bring beauty to any corner of the world she touched. More than anything, Virginia cherished her family. Her greatest pride and deepest love were her sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a loving mother, devoted grandmother, cherished sister, and loyal friend whose kindness, wisdom, and laughter will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Meador and Wanda Belle Edwards. Survivors include her sons, Jason McBride, Scott McBride (Carmen), James McBride, and Chris McBride (Samantha); siblings, Robert Meador (Sharon), Mary Lou Jones, and John Meador (Tammy); 5 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 31, 2026 at Strickland Funeral Home, Effingham Chapel. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, June 1, 2026 at the Strickland Funeral Home, Effingham Chapel. Interment will follow in Gravel Hill Cemetery in Pooler. Thomas C.
