A Life Story

Bernice Dolores McKenzie, 100, died Tuesday, October 29, 2024. She was born May 8, 1924, to the late Raymond Springer and the late Angeline Cosei Springer. Bernice was married for 63 years to the late Joseph Hillary McKenzie, Sr. She retired as a bookkeeper after many years and was a communicant of St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church in Savannah. She was preceded by her parents, her husband, three brothers, a sister, and a great-grandchild. Surviving are her children, Cheryl Johnson and husband, Steve, Dr. Joe McKenzie and wife, Patricia, Jean Ethredge and husband, Jack; Gary Raymond McKenzie, Barbara Johns and husband, David; two sisters, Doris Finley and husband, Mike and Betty Marquard; fourteen grandchildren and twenty eight great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at 10 o'clock Monday morning at St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church, 11500 Middleground Rd., Savannah. A rosary service will be held at 10:30 Monday morning. Bernice's funeral mass will be celebrated Monday at 11 o'clock in the morning at St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church. Burial will be in Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery.
