    A Life Story

Ethel Imogene Scott Dampier Lynch, known lovingly as Imogene and Granny to her family and friends, passed away peacefully at her home in Savannah, Georgia, on August 15, 2026 at the age of 98. Born on June 7, 1928, in Hernando, Mississippi, Imogene lived a life marked by loyalty, laughter, and an unwavering devotion to those she loved. Imogene was married to Mark Dampier for fifty-four years, a union that formed the cornerstone of her family life. Following Mark's passing, she later married Robert Lynch, with whom she shared six cherished years. Both husbands preceded her in death. For many years, Imogene devoted herself to the role of homemaker, pouring her energy into the lives of her husband and children. She was a hard worker who remained fiercely loyal to her family and friends throughout her life. An avid gardener, she cultivated her passion for plants and flowers as a proud member of the Fernwood Garden Club. Later in life, she pursued a career at F. W. Woolworth Company, from which she retired. As a breast cancer survivor, Imogene gave back to her community by volunteering with the American Red Cross Blood Drive, offering her time and compassion to a cause close to her heart. Imogene loved to laugh, and she was widely known for her quick wit. She had a tender heart for animals, especially her three beloved dogs, Prissy, Candy, and Chelsea, all of whom preceded her in death. She was fondly remembered for feeding the neighborhood cats. She is survived by her three children: daughter, Wanda Reese; her son, Gordon Dampier and his wife, Elaine; and daughter, Julie Culhane. Four grandchildren: Grant Dampier (Lacey); Melanie Tran (Michael); Conor Culhane; Nolan Culhane (Karena); and three great grandchildren: Nora Dampier, Olivia Dampier and Caroline Tran. Imogene's deep and abiding faith in Jesus Christ guided every aspect of her life. She expressed that faith through years of teaching children in Sunday School at South Gardens Christian Church, shaping young hearts with patience and love. At the time of her passing, she was a member of Compassion Christian Church. Her family takes comfort in knowing she now rests in the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. A graveside service will be held at Hillcrest Abbey East on Tuesday, August 18, 2026 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to Compassion Christian Church or Hospice Savannah in Imogene's memory.
